We need your help to run VEX Robotics Competitions in the UK
What is the VEX Robotics Competition?
The VEX Robotics Competitions brings together students aged 8 to 18 who have worked hard to design, build, and code robots to compete in educational and exciting game-based engineering challenges, taking on both autonomous and remote-controlled tasks with their robots.
They bring STEM skills to life by tasking teams of students with designing, building and coding a robot to play against other teams in a game-based engineering challenge. 95% of participants report an increased interest in STEM subjects and related careers
From people with a STEM background to those passionate about youth education, we welcome all who are willing to give up time to help us inspire the next generation. There are a wide variety of roles for us to fill, from field side referees to judging students engineering designs, roles that require some pre-event training to those that allow you to jump right in.
Field Side Opportunities
-
There are many roles available at a VEX Robotics event.
Emcee
Head Referee
Scorekeeper Referee
Inspection
Admin
Queueing
All of these roles are integral to the way the event runs and include high interaction with the teams, and for most roles experience isn’t necessary.
However, some roles do require previous experience and a prerequisite that volunteers have performed that role at regional events this season.
Judging Opportunities

Judging Opportunities
Judging is an important part of Robotics Education and Competition Foundation (REC Foundation) programs.
Through the judging process, students have opportunities to practice both written and verbal communication skills, as well as to demonstrate the values espoused in the Code of Conduct and Student-Centered policies.
Judges can play many roles depending on the assignment:
Reviewing Engineering Notebooks
Walking around to interview teams in the pit areas
Observing teams on the competition floor
There are some key skills needed:
Prior experience is helpful, but beginners can be trained quickly and easily
Pay attention to detail and be impartial
Interact positively with students
Communicate effectively
